We had a really good time — and the movies/books are just so great … what a wonderful experience.
“Kiss it, make love with it,” you guys cracked me up! Nah, I listened the whole way through. No Victorian sh*t for me either, Nikki. Just don’t care for it. But you were both right on the moolah with Meryl Streep. Every movie, even the one where she played the country singer. All awesome. She just sucks you into every one. If I were to see check out any of the three, that would be the one. Awesome program, ladies. And just to show you how good I listened, Nikki you sound a bit like Rosie O’Donnell and Sandra, I love the way you say “was.”

Thanks for this talk. It was fun to listen to it. Now I really want to read ‘Fingersmith’ (put it away last time) .. I couldn’t remember all details of OANTOF (re-read? or going for the movie .. hmm?!?) and I have hours in a German version, but wasn’t in the mood to read it yet .. list gets longer and longer .. need to quit my job *haha*

Nice show! “Oranges are not the only fruit” is a TV mini series and not a movie, which explains the length. Nikki, since it was your first Winterson book I’d like to recommend that you read more books by her (especially “The Passion”, “Written on the body” and her memoir “Why be happy when you can be normal”). Her prose is amazing.
Yes it is, as is Fingersmith which didn’t FEEL long. I’m definitely going to be picking up more of her books.

The Passion was the first JW book I read. It was what made me want to read more of her work
My first was Oranges but “The Passion” is one of my favorite books. Winterson’s writing when she is at her best is almost poetry.
I really enjoyed the show and am going to check out Orange on youtube next!! I saw The Hours and thought it was excellent! Thanks so much for doing the show! Cannot wait for next week and when you do the women in action either!!

I watched “Hours” today and found it engrossing. I loved the theme of “expectations” (among others) that ran throughout the story.

Being the completely asshat friend that I am, I’m FINALLY listening to this show.
You’ve made me want to use one of my Audible credits to get Fingersmith. I FREAKING love that book. And think the BBC did a wonderful job with the adaptation.
I’m just early in the listening – you’re just starting to talk about Oranges. I’ve not read nor seen it. I may now. Possibly.

I enjoyed Maud’s part more, too, because she’s revealing so much and it changes what we thought we knew. That’s not giving too much away, is it?

I believe Gentleman’s name while wooing Maud was Richard Rivers. I don’t remember what his real name was, though.

I just got Fingersmith from Audible. Guess A Feast For Crows is going on the back burner for 23 hours and 40 minutes of listening time.
The only one of these I saw was Oranges and that was way back when it first came out. I know at the time I wasn’t all that impressed. But, since I have recently gotten netflix, I am adding all of these to my list so I can check them out. I am intrigued with Fingersmith and will be looking to see that first. How come the British do all these adaptions so much better then the US? I am failing to think of any really good ones done by the US. Well done show!
Correction: the Hours was a US adaption, and was done very well. My mistake! but I am still having problems thinking of other good adaptions from the US.
