Episode 58 – Georgia Beers

This will go down as one of my personal favorites. Not only did I spend nearly two hours chatting with one of my very favorite authors, but Andy got smashed and publicly declared her love for me. Who wouldn’t be thrilled with that?? Be sure to check out Georgia Beers’ work!

We were supposed to focus on Georgia’s new book, Slices of Life, but I couldn’t help myself and we went all over the place. Some of Georgia’s books are favorites of mine and many of my friends so I had stuff to talk about! Not just for myself, but for my friends. I’m a giver, what can I say?

You would think having Georgia Beers on the show would be enough of a reason to listen but, trust me, you don’t want to miss Andy this time around. Not that you’d ever want to miss Andy but this show is definitely one all the Andy fans will love. Oh, and she totally embarrassed me at the end of the show but it’s funny so completely worth it. So listen all the way to the end!

This is the first, but I hope not the last, episode that we have listeners call in with comments and questions for the author and it was a success! A big congrats to Michelle for winning an autographed book from Ms. Beers for calling in. But don’t worry, you’ll all have your chance to win a signed book, too. Georgia has been VERY generous and offered up FOUR more copies of either Slices of Life, 96 Hours, or Starting from Scratch to those who answer the following question: Which of the chapters in Slices of Life would you like to be made into a full length novel and if you haven’t read Slices of Life yet, why not? That’s it! Just post your answer in the comments section below and you’ll be entered in the drawing to win! Get your post done no later than 2/8 because we’ll be picking the winners on the 9th when we record the next show.

At the bottom of this post is a video of me making my Dirty Martini. Georgia had a Skinny Pirate and Andy had THREE vodka martinis. And she’s feeling pretty damn good for a “morning after.”

Here are Georgia’s instructions on making a Skinny Pirate: it’s a shot of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum (or in my case, more like two shots) over ice. Then add Diet Coke to fill the glass. Diet is important because regular Coke makes it way too sweet. Garnish with a lime, which is not necessary, but makes a big difference.

Alright you wonderful, lovely people, give a listen, have a laugh, and then get entered to win!

Be sure to get over to Georgia’s website, http://georgiabeers.com to see all the wonderful things she’s got going on.

And if you feel like calling in to leave a comment or question about this or any other show, here’s our number: 747-224-7763. The number is good for Cocktail Hour, Flicks & Swizzle Sticks, and Last Call with Colette Moody.

  1. I would love to see more on the chef. She’s a little older and I would think has a lot of back story that would tell us how she got to the point where she is making brunch for a beautiful woman she meets at the bar in her restaurant.

  2. Gotta go with the housewife. I honestly don’t think it’s done too much (particularly with Thy Neighbors Wife-I connected with this housewife much more, different circumstances, etc.)

Sidenote-damn fine show, might be my new favorite. I loved being able to call in and get questions answered.

  3. I must admit I have not bought or read Slices of Life yet. The reasons being lack of money and then bad health. I really enjoyed the show. I was very surprised by her best seller. I would have thought Starting From Scratch held the top spot.

Can we wait a full year for her next novel?

  4. I didn’t read Slices of Life yet, since a certain voice (let’s call her Cheri), keeps on whispering new reading suggestions in my ear and it’s very hard to keep up. If I get picked for one of the prizes, can I get the triple chocolate cookie recipe instead? Signed of course by Georgia or Avery ๐Ÿ™‚ If I am already known as the greediest listener, I might as well take full advantage. And while I am at it, yes, I want that Gretchen sequel too! It is actually my first Georgia Beers books that I read and it pops up very soon in those Amazon suggestions when you are browsing through lesfic. Maybe that is the reason why it’s still the most sold Georgia Beers book?

  5. I haven’t read Slices of Life yet, but having heard this Cocktail hour, I’m going to pick that up ๐Ÿ™‚ I have, however, read 96 Hours, and that was really a great book. Looking forward to hearing Georgia speak in Dallas ๐Ÿ™‚ I met her last year in Mpls., while she was hugging Fozzie Bear the mascot puppy. P.S. I don’t have a “sprinkling of freckles.” Peace!

  6. Haven’t read Slices of Life yet, but probably the UPS gal. I just love a freckle sprinkled ass in a uniform.

Great show, guys! Andy, you totally wiped.

  7. Terrific interview! OK, so I didn’t have a good reason for not having ‘Slice of Life’ so I went ahead and got it and read it. Fantastic! I love the peaking into each of the characters lives. Who would I like to see in a full length novel, that was more difficult to pick. I like Stay at Home Mom, but I can see some real angst in that one! also, I thought that Personal Trainer would be good, especially right after what happens in this book ๐Ÿ™‚ the other would be The Restaurant owner (chef), being she is a bit older it would be fun to see how she does. I could go on, but… You guys did a fun interview with Georgia. I wonder if Andi was feeling ok the next day and was impressed that Rev was able to keep her fan-girl in check (I was sort of hoping to hear her go all ga ga on Ms Beers!)
    Take care,
    Marie

  8. I have not read it yet because I love Georgias work so much that I didn’t think I would be satisfied with the short stories. But after I heard the show I immediately bought the book.

  9. I haven’t read Slices of Life yet. There’s no good reason for why I haven’t read it, I just haven’t gotten around to buying it yet. After listening to your enthusiasm about the book on the show I’ll definitely be buying Slices of Life soon. I’ve really enjoyed Georgia’s other books! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It is a pretty new book so I’m thinking there are quite a few Georgia Beers fans who havent’ gotten it yet.

I hope you enjoy it when you do pick it up and good luck in the drawing!

  10. This comment is from Gloria:

Good Show with a Fantastic Author. Thank you, guys. You Rock! )
I have not read, ‘Slices of Life’, as of yet. It is now on my list, due to this broadcast.

The reason for not owning this book is, not enough funds, at this time..lol

Thank you, Georgia, for sharing your time with us…
I would love to read a romantic intrigue novel designed by Georgia Beers!

  11. OK, I know I’m late, but my computer died, so I been offline. Now, this is the first Georgia Beers book I have read and I loved it. It reads more like a large list of characters with some insight into each, more than a collection of short stories. I saw it as a look at a small town, with people of different ages and backgrounds. Well done, now I am off to buy more of Georgia’s stuff! Any suggestions?

  12. I am torn between two, but if I have to pick one it would be the wine shop owner. Dorian is so real and current. Of course Georgia could throw in a little of my second favorite in.

  13. Today is Friday so I like the UPS driver. Yesterday it was the Chef. Tomorrow, well …. Starting from Scratch is a favorite read and reread – Thank-you, Georgia.

  14. Got a message that I won a book! Thank you so much! I have never won anything til I started listening to you ladies! LOL! Thanks again and by the way, I choose Starting From Scratch as my book!
