Flicks and Swizzle Sticks – Romance (ish)

I call this show “Romance (ish)” because the characters in one of our movies do NOT end up together (fair warning, romance fans). I promise I’m not spoiling 500 Days of Summer by saying that. You know that from the very start. But we still wanted to talk about it, so it stays! My semi-regular co-hosts Georgia Beers and Melissa Brayden joined me, Nikki, to talk about some of our favorites: While You Were Sleeping, Love Actually, Playing by Heart, and the aforementioned 500 Days of Summer.

We touch on the adorableness of Joseph Gordon Levitt, the conundrum that is latent internet hatred toward Love Actually, and a gorgeous beverage that Georgia and I were moderately (extremely) envious of. We want to congratulate our winners from the last Flicks podcast. Pixiey-you get to choose from either movie or book from the following: Fingersmith, Oranges are not the Only Fruit, or The Hours. Marie Foose- you win a copy of Sandra Moran’s Letters Never Sent (which I can confirm is an excellent read). Congratulations and thank you, listeners, for helping support our giveaways with your donations. You make us feel warm and fuzzy in our heart strings.

Want a chance at a free movie? Comment below to get entered into the drawing! We love hearing from our listeners, and we reward your attention with MOVIES. Winners from this podcast will be announced when we record next month’s show, Women In Action Vol. 2.

  1. I was shocked and a little appalled at how old each movie is now. And what is up with the lame IMDB teasers?

  2. this show has tempted me to try the Kentucky Bubbly. it just looks very good. Also, has brought to my attention that Matthew Gray Gubler is in 500 Days of Summer, so now I will have to watch that one.

  3. Your show is like spending an hour with smart, funny friends. You all make me smile. I’m going to watch While You Were Sleeping and I think I have the ingredients for a Kentucky Bubbly… Thanks 🙂

  4. I have only seen While You Were Sleeping and Love Actually, i have not seen 500 Days of Summer or Playing By Heart. Based on what I have seen and since I own a copy of it, I would say While You Were Sleeping is my favorite. I love the characters in this film and the secondary characters are well fleshed out too, It is a totally feel good movie that I can watch over and over again. I liked Love Actually but I didn’t care for some of the story lines as I didn’t feel anything for them (colin firth’s story for one), I did love Emma Thompson’s scene with the Joni Mitchel song, wonderful acting!!
I will try and find the other two movies, they are not on netflix at this time, and see them, The 500 Days, sounds really good.
Really enjoy your Flicks and Swizzle Sticks! I get to try out a lot of new movies! Have a great 2014!!
