Flicks and Swizzle Sticks – Disney

Hey, what do you want to do right now? Listen to Nikki Smalls and Rachel Spangler gush about our favorite Disney movies? I knew it! It was seriously hard to choose movies for this one, since we have determined that our childhoods were the start of a veritable feast of Disney gold! We picked Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Wall-E, and Academy Award winning Frozen. We also discussed Mulan’s status as a beacon to gender-confused youth and Elsa’s gayness.

Intrigued yet? Well, listen anyway. A big contrats to Cindy G. for winning a movie from last month’s show. I’ll be contacting you to find out which movie you want pronto! If you want to win a DVD of Frozen, be sure to comment below to get entered into the giveaway. Best of luck to you all!

  1. Loved the show!! Wall-E!!! You know I have been looking forward to this show for ages Nikki ๐Ÿ˜€ it’s my most favourite film, I heart him so hard too! Frozen is just amazing and I sing the let it go song ALL THE TIME! ๐Ÿ™‚
I have not seen Mulan or Beauty and the beast in years, now I really want to. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I had a funny feeling you’d be the first to comment, Goochie!

      Glad you liked it.

I sang Let it Go at least 5 times yesterday!

      • ๐Ÿ˜€ I just HAD to be!
I sing Let it go loudly in my car a lot!! I’ll never get sick of it.

  2. I pre ordered my Frozen DVD just to get the pictures that you got for free. I love Disney movies just not as much as my brother.

  3. Listened to the show last night, then had to stop at my library today to check out Wall-E to re-watch.
Good show/theme this time. I love Disney movies too. I’m in my 40’s so I grew up with them. I so agree that there is just something about the old way of animation with hand drawings & painted cells.
Really like the older 3 movie y’all discussed. Haven’t seen Frozen yet but it sounds great. Could you enter me in the drawing please?

  4. enjoyed the show, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney, have not seen Frozen yet, but have wanted to since it came out.

  5. Wow, I’d never caught the orphan thing before, but you’re totally right. And with Frozen WHY MUST THEY BE SO SKINNY? I mean their heads are huge! Finally, why did Elsa get so don’t? When I’m tired of people judging me, I wear sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt with no bra.

  6. I’m finally listening… I’ve only seen Wall-E of the movies that you discuss.

I also did not care for the animation in Polar Express.

  7. Is it even possible to pick a favorite favorite Disney animated film? LOL

I think it’s almost impossible. We love almost all of them.

If I had to, had to, HAD TO pick a favorite, then I probably would pick The Goofy Movie, because of the relationship between Max and his single parent Dad.
That film helped my daughter and I through an interesting patch of transition when she was coming into her own. We love that movie! We love ‘The Perfect Cast’. Lol … and I STILL get cooked up watching some of the scenes.

  8. Good show! I hate to say it, but I had almost all of those and many other Disney movies on VHS! I finally donated them all to the library. I haven’t seen frozen yet, but am looking forward to it! I saw a lot of these in the theater when they came out.

  9. I have not seen Frozen, but as soon as I finished listening to this show, I ran across this article…

Frozen lambasted as pro-gay propaganda by Christian pastor
    http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/mar/12/frozen-gay-propaganda-christian-pastor-colorado?CMP=fb_gu

I found it funny that you two mentioned Elsa and the theme of Let It Go and then it was a focus of this guy’s (& NCR’s) argument.

Also, at the end of the article is a link to another story: Frozen in time: when will Disney’s heroines reflect real body shapes?
    http://www.theguardian.com/film/filmblog/2013/nov/28/frozen-disney-female-body-image

Anyway, thanks to you, my Netflix queue now has Disney movies in it. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Excellent!

And thanks for the awesome links, Lisa!

Maybe you’ll be lucky and you’ll win a copy ๐Ÿ™‚
