Episode 45 – B. L. Newport

Author B. L. Newport joined me and Andy to talk about the first book of her Reapers, Inc. series, Brigit’s Cross. Except Andy accidentally read the second in the series, Rogue Reaper, but it was a great discussion anyway! Very few spoilers were given so don’t worry about listening. Bonnie was a wonderful guest and I know you’re going to enjoy hearing about her work. You can find more about Bonnie and her work on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/BLNewport and you buy her books on Amazon.

If you’re looking for a series of books that aren’t the same old thing, you’ll definitely want to pick these up. And if you want to win the first three in either print or ebook format, leave a comment and you’ll have the chance to win them! That’s right, no questions to answer this go around, just leave a comment. I may enter you twice if you say something nice about me. But don’t tell anyone else, we wouldn’t want to make anyone jealous. It’ll be our little secret. (wink, wink)

Bonnie and I enjoyed margaritas while Andy did not. She’s getting in shape for the lesbian cruise so we didn’t give her any crap about skipping the cocktail. Here’s how I made mine, mostly:

Classic Margaritas
makes 2 drinks

4 limes
1/4 cup tequila
1/3 cup Cointreau, Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
Quarter of an orange

Squeeze the limes into a small pitcher to make 1/2 cup juice. Squeeze in the quarter orange (you are just looking for a splash of it). Add the alcohol, stir and pour into rocks glasses filled with ice. Rim the glasses with coarse salt, if you like.

Here’s a link to where I stole the recipe: http://abeachhomecompanion.blogspot.com/2011/09/classic-margarita-from-scratch-youll.html

We hope you enjoy the show and be sure to enter no later than July 20th so we can announce the winner on the next show.

  1. Hey, Enjoyed the show as usual. (I’m one of those people that listens all the time but doesn’t comment…) Bonnie’s Reapers series sounds really interesting. As Andy says “Damn, another book to buy!”. Y’all do a great job, keep it up please – I’ll definitely be listening. Thanks, Cindy

  2. Hi yup i’m another lurker to your site love it.. thanks for putting it out there for us all, I was really likeing the sound of the Reaper series today shame Amazon uk dont have it in ebook as yet …looking forward to hearing your next posting….rita

  3. Rita, you can get the ebooks at Smashwords for $4.99/each. Here’s the link to the first one in the series: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/10648

I usually get all my ebooks from Amazon.com because I use a Kindle. The Reaper novels were the first I purchased through Smashwords, and it was pretty painless to download to my laptop and transfer via the cable to the Kindle.

I loved learning that Bonnie based the characters on people she knows…

Meanwhile, I definitely have a date with Jennifer at the next Hangout. Good times.

  4. Terrific show! I look forward to each Cocktail Hour. Thanks for bringing Reapers, Inc. (and many other wonderful reads) to my attention. Cocktails and good books – an unbeatable combination.
