We decided to revisit the theme from my very first Flicks and Swizzle Sticks podcast to talk about 3 more movies featuring women in action. My buddy Georgia Beers joined me, Nikki, and we mourned together that Melissa Brayden couldn’t join us for this go-round. Georgia drowned her sorrows in Pinot Grigio while I buried my sadness in a tasty Plungerhead Zinfandel (I highly recommend it, and not just for the fantastic label).
For this episode, we chose the most epic of all bad-ass women, Ellen Ripley, in our favorite from the series: Aliens. Georgia introduced me to Bitch Slap and we both revisited Red Eye with the divine Ms. Rachel McAdams. I can’t see this being our last women in action show. We still haven’t touched on Resident Evil or Hanna and there are so many more!
A big congrats to Shawn Collins for winning a free movie from the last episode! You get to choose a blu ray or dvd of one of the following: 500 Days of Summer, Playing by Heart, Love Actually or While You Were Sleeping. Don’t forget to comment below with your thoughts to get entered to win a free movie!

Good show this time. Love Ripley too! After hearing your podcast, I’m going to need to re-watch Aliens & Red Eye soon.
Never seen Birch Slap, but I’m now curious enough to check it out in the future.
I love Ripley more every time I watch it!
Thanks for listening and good luck in the drawing!
Great show.
Thanks Michelle!!!
I’m SUPER late in listening to this one…
I’m thinking you’re about to wrap up your discussion of Aliens so I wanted to comment on it before you guys moved on and I forget my thoughts. Which happens all the time. What did I come here for…? OH!
My favorite line from Aliens – which I saw in the theater right after I got out of boot camp – “They mostly come out at night. Mostly.” TJ and I STILL say that regularly about any number of things. Or just because.
I didn’t see Alien until well after I saw Aliens. Aliens is, by far, the best of the series. And I may be the only person who enjoyed the third one. I did not like the fourth one at all.
Also, not sure exactly why – maybe aliens exploding from bodies in both – but The Thing kept popping up in my head while listening.
Ok, back to work and listening.
I forgot to mention that I LOVE Ms. Weaver in Death and the Maiden.
I love the Resident Evil films – even the last one which wasn’t very good. I’m also still hoping for a musical show which should include the saddest movie ever made, Dancer in the Dark.
I had forgotten about Nikki adding a little bonus sound byte at the end of the shows. Great choice for this one.
Great show Nikki & Georgia!
Thanks Cheri! Glad you liked it. Yeah I need to get that depressing song fest on a show. I guess I’ll have to actually watch it then…
I’ll be happy if you just watch it and let me know what you think. I just want you to watch it. Because it’s so terribly sad and there’s singing and dancing.
depressing AND singing AND dancing?!?
How could I resist?
I have no idea.
