Episode 30 – Ann McMan and Melissa Good

Andy & I were delighted to welcome Ann McMan to the show to talk about her fantastic book, Jericho. We had so much fun with her. What a great sense of humor! This was one of my favorite shows. We also discussed Melissa Good’s Shadows of the Soul. Very good. Love her work! You can find info about Ann’s work at www.annmcman.com and Missy’s work at www.merwolf.com.

We also announced the winners of the Cocktail Hour Writing Challenge. Congratulations to Ursula Kincaid (aka the Fallen) for her 1st place story, The Unashamedly Redheaded Blues! Our 2nd & 3rd place winners were both written by Norsebard, Class of ’88 and Culture Crash: The Bard and the Biker, respectively. Honorable mention goes to Kim Phoenix for her entry, Rani. Thank you so much for entering! Listeners, be sure to read the ebook containing the stories, and a special bonus, non-judged entry written by Another Author. The books are located on the Reading page in epub and rtf formats (http://cocktailhour.us/reading). I had some problems with the PDF so took it down. The rtf file is big and will take a little time to download. We hope you enjoy the stories!

Andy and I had some good drinks to go along with the show. Andy enjoyed Slippery Panties and I had Slippery Nipples. Mmmmm. Here’s how you make them:

Slippery Panties

1 oz vanilla vodka
1 oz Frangelico® hazelnut liqueur
1 oz butterscotch schnapps

Pour ingredients into a stainless steel shaker over ice, shake until completely cold then strain into a chilled stemmed glass or Rocks glass filled with ice.

Slippery Nipple

Equal parts Irish creme, coffee liqueur, and butterscotch schnapps.

Put the Irish cream in first. Then slowly pour the Kahlua down the side of the glass so it doesn’t mix. Then add the Butterscoth Schnapps on top nice and slow.

Take care, everyone, and I hope you enjoy this very special show.

    • Congratulations! I truly enjoyed your story. And I’ve already told my wife and brother that when we brew our next batch of beer, it’ll be called Dead Clam Beer.

  2. It was a great run, Rev, you will be missed. I wish you all good things in your life beyond Cocktail Hour.

  3. I just joined a couple of weeks ago and have been catching up on the podcasts. My favorites being episode 24 and 25. I’m really gonna miss hearing Rev on the show and I kinda got teary over that. At least I can still laugh with Andy. Rev you gotta do what you gotta do and I hope to hear you on the show again.

    • Thank you, Jenny. I’m so happy that you found Cocktail Hour. And you can bet that I’ll be around.

If you haven’t yet, give a listen to the Bar Rag with Colette Moody reading her short story. I love it!

Thanks, again, for your kind words!

      Happy listening,
      Rev

  4. I really enjoy the show and am sad like a.. sad thing that you’re leaving, Rev. Would begging and pleading make a difference?

    • I’m so happy that you’re enjoying the podcast! It’s fantastic to get the positive feedback.

Andy and I are already planning my guest co-hosting spots. I love the show, and Andy, too much to permanently disappear.

Keep listening because Andy’s got some great stuff lined up and you won’t want to miss it!

  5. I know other things in life come first but you two make a great team. Take care and thanks for your part in my fave podcast. *sniff*

  6. Will be totally missing you Rev, I am glad that you will be around to harass Andy now and then, well all know she needs it! I know how hard it must have been to give up this baby, but your son is a one time thing and work plus marriage needs ya too! You take care of yourself and I will keep in touch, but I had to say I cried hearing the news.

    Love ya

  7. Great interview! I love Ann McMan’s writing. Now I “love” Ann McMan. 😀 Call me an AMcAFan.

“Jericho” rocks! Wait until you guyz read “Dust.”

Rev, I’m going to miss you but you can still continue kicking my ass in Word. Ooh-rah.

Andy, see you in Minneapolis in June.

Rev, I actually intended to enter your contest. It was going to be about an 80s female rock band called Bearded Clam. I just never got around to it. 🙁

    Great show!

  8. Cheyne,

I’m always happy to kick your ass at WWF!

You know, you do have a site where you could post that story. I’d LOVE to read it.

The wife and I are still planning to head to MN, too, so maybe we can all get together for a cocktail. I believe I owe Brenda a drink for the book she sent home with Ginny. I’d love to pay up!

    • That’s right, I forgot you two were going to attend the next GCLS. Can’t wait! We need to make plans to take over Camp Snoopy at the Mall of America, then have dinner somewhere with atmosphere. I LOVE Minneapolis. 🙂
