Bar Rag 39 – 80’s Music Discussion with Colette Moody

Andy, Colette, and I were having a conversation about some businessy type stuff when Moody started slamming on the music of the 1980s. I could not stand for such a slight and issued a challenge. Andy located the top 100 songs, as dictated by VH1, and the debate began! As with all things with us, we strayed off into other areas like Kelly McGillis, a revisit of Colette’s love of Julie Andrews’ breasts, and rumors of a Hanson brother self-fellating and Sir Mix-A-Lot’s demise. Sir Mix-A-Lot is still alive but we didn’t bother to find confirmation of the Hanson brother rumor.

We decided to share this exchange with you. If you have an opinion, be sure to post some comments and let us know where you stand.

  1. Here are some artists that made great music in the 80’s that weren’t on the list: Elvis Costello, 10,000 Maniacs (featuring my 2nd wife, Natalie Merchant), and Sade.

  2. It seems to me that Cheri and I have the same taste….however I always love to hear the three of you talking…how can you guys not like The Cure “Close To Me”, “Disintegration” “Love Cats”. Andy is kinda like…eh..on some really great song! However, I am going to have to use the “Rock Me Amadeus” as leverage perhaps!!

Berlin? Cheri….you hurt me!! How can you not like “The Metro” or “The Masquerade”? Okay…I will stop commenting…I could get wordy…really enjoying the show!

  3. This might be my favorite episode ever. And not just because of my adoration of 80’s music.

For shit’s sake, Cheri, how can you not appreciate the Bangles’ excellent rendition of Hazy Shade of Winter?!?!?
