This episode features the novels of Merry Shannon: Sword of the Guardian and Branded Ann. Andy and Rev highly recommend both of these great books! You can see more about Merry Shannon and her work at merryshannon.com.Â
The other two fantasy books we talked about were Banshee’s Honor (http://www.pdpublishing.com/bansheeendpage.html or http://www.academyofbards.org/fanfic/s/shaych_banshee1.html) and When Women Were Warriors (http://www.whenwomenwerewarriors.com/). We also had a short discussion about Sea Legs by KG MacGregor. And hermaphrodites. I hope Andy can find that story!

We talked about some holiday gift giving suggestions. Here are some suggestions we had:
- L-Book now offers gifting of ebooks – and a free holiday ebook with purchases with short stories from some of their fine authors.
- The Passion Planet has a special holiday goodies section if you’re looking for something more intimate.
- Cafe Press (we picked Colette Moody’s for the link) – lots of merchandise!
- Kiva is a great way to give the gift that really keeps giving.
We wish you the very best of everything this holiday season! Catch you next year!
We were supposed to have Hot Buttered Rum. The Rev tried it the night before recording – didn’t like it. Here’s the recipe for that:
In a coffee cup add
2 oz dark rum
1/2 oz sugar syrup or tsp brown sugar
Pinch of nutmeg
Fill mug with hot water
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and pat of butter
Note: sugar syrup and simple syrup are one and the same. If you want to make your own sugar syrup: in a sauté pan bring 2 or 3 cups of water to a boil, then turn heat down on low. Gradually stir in 2 or 3 cups of sugar, 1 minute to add while stirring, and maybe one more minute to ensure full dissolve. Let cool to room temp and funnel into a empty bottle.

[…] Ohmigosh, with all the holiday bustle I haven’t yet posted this awesome announcement! Andy and The Rev over at Cocktail Hour featured their reviews of and thoughts on Sword of the Guardian and Branded Ann in Episode 8 of their podcast!! […]
OMG yay!! It took us a while to be able to get online with all the holiday craziness, but Shasta and I were up til all hours of the night last night listening to the episode. You guys are hilarious!!
Thank you so much for the reviews — I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the books!! (And you know, Ann’s 3D image didn’t turn out exactly as I was picturing her, either — I’m still such a newbie at the whole 3D thing, and I’ve been planning on taking another stab at it next time I get a chance to play around with the program. *gringrin*)
It’s terrific that you have created this great set of podcasts on Lesbian Lit. Yay!
Thanks for mentioning Catherine M. Wilson’s “When Women Were Warriors” trilogy. One of my favorite stories and perfectly written. Everyone should read these very well crafted and compelling books!
Here’s to you and Happy New Year! Thanks so much for your work!

and it has sex in it…)
Thanks for the kind words, Liz. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Oooo Maggie Gale mystery stories have sex? Definitely on my reading list now. Thanks for the 411.
Andy
Liz – thank you so much for your kind words! Andy and I have such a good time doing the podcast that it hardly seems like any work at all.
Hi Ladies,
Thanks for the mention of When Women Were Warriors on your podcast. I still have Book I available as a free ebook from my website here:
http://www.catherinemwilson.com/free-ebook.html
Also, it’s 99 cents from Amazon Kindle if that’s more convenient for people.
Andy D says:
Oooo Maggie Gale mystery stories have sex?
To which I reply:
Yes, indeed, some of the sexiest sex I’ve read in quite a while.

[…] and told everyone who would listen that they had to read this book. Andy and I discussed it on Cocktail Hour, along with the author’s other book, Branded Ann. I finished a re-read of it a couple of days […]
Shaylynn Rose here – thanks for the mention 🙂 Banshee’s Honor may someday have a successor – there’s a few things sort of fermenting on my hard drive, so we’ll see what happens if I can find some free time.
Yes please! I’m hoping to re-read Banshee’s Honor in 2013. Any chance of an ebook version coming out?
Things with Banshee are a little bit up in the air right now. I will say that having it as an ebook is something I’ve always wanted, so keep your fingers crossed. I’m also working on some other things for 2013 – i hope to have something for Passion and Perfection’s Epic Proportions challenge.
Whoo hoo! I love Epic Proportions!
