Episode 80 – Melissa Brayden

That’s right, dear listeners, Melissa Brayden, aka Best Number Picker Ever, is back on Cocktail Hour to chat with me and Megan about her brand new release, How Sweet It Is. I don’t think there are any spoilers in the discussion so give it a listen whether you’ve read it or not.

As an added bonus to the fun and scattered conversation, you have a chance to win one of three copies of How Sweet It Is – in the format of your choice! All you have to do is post a comment letting us know what your favorite Melissa Brayden book is and why. Or if you’ve not read any of Melissa’s books, why not. Super easy! Post your comments no later than December 13th and we’ll pick the winners on the next show.

For the cocktail portion of the show, we were a little greedy and had two: Kentucky Mule and Chocolate Truffle. Melissa drank both of them during the show while Megan and I worked on the Mule. I did have a chocolate truffle after the show and it was DELISH! Below is how you can make your own.

Kentucky Mule
In a tall glass with ice, add:

1 1/2 oz Kentucky Bourbon
Splash of lime juice
Fill with ginger beer

Chocolate Truffle
Mix all ingredients and serve over ice.

1 oz Frangelico
2 oz Godiva liqueur
1 oz Grand Marnier
4 oz milk

We hope you enjoy the show! And be sure to let the authors you enjoy know that you appreciate them with a little email or Facebook message or something. Sales and download numbers are great but a little personal note can feel SO good! You can keep up with Melissa at her website (http://www.melissabrayden.com/), her blog – where Cocktail Hour gets a few mentions on her latest post (http://mbrayden.wordpress.com/), or on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/melissabrayden). She’s EVERYWHERE! Oh! If you missed her first appearance on Cocktail Hour, you can check that out by clicking on this handy link right here.

  1. Hey all, what a fun show!! Misses Andy, but was nice to hear Megan, she has a great sounding voice. The drinks sounded yummy!! I have not read any of Melissa’s writing, but want to. As for why…well you know me I have to draw…lol

I think Melissa’s voice is really cute and her swearing was funny!! LOL

Looking forward to next weeks show!! Cheri, thank you for sharing some of your stories about Disney World. That was awesome!!

  2. I have read heart block and enjoyed it. This storyline sounds like it will be another good one. Megan I have to agree with you, I don’t feel I could comprehend the book by listening to it. I believe I would get to lost and frustrated with listening.

  3. From Zombie Apocalypse “braaains” to Megan’s very Catholic cussing and Melissa’s considerate guest-like self control, this was hilarious! I found it especially funny how demure you all got when initiating the WWYF conversation – total dancing about the vocabulary by the three of you. How coy – riiiight.
And “Goat-head”, (yep, Cheri, THAT is now my title for your loftiness!) – I’m gonna let the comments about my “hard” questions slide on by – ‘cos I won!
Yipeee! Between the awesome Number Generator Melissa Brayden and the awesome Generous Author Paulette Callen, I’m in Happyville. Yay me!

I’ve read everything published by Melissa and I have my hair-trigger mouse ready for the release of her next title.
    Colour me happy.
    – Megan, that “u” was just for you. 😉

  4. I may have been out of the country when it came out. I’ll check the year.

**It came out in 1989 and I was in Okinawa. I was mostly drinking on the beach from 1987 – 1990**

  5. Don’t worry Cheri I hadn’t heard of Say Anything either!
I’d have to say Heart Block would be my favourite but I really liked WITW too.
    Thanks for the show.
    Happy festive season to all.

  6. 😀 I freaking loved this show! Megan as always, you were hilarious! 🙂 and yes you DO have an accent! 😛
I have not read anything by Melissa yet, but I promised myself I would after listening to her on F&SS 🙂

I miss Andy too! 🙂 but it’s always a joy to listen to Megan and Cheri bicker. 😀

Can’t wait for the next show! I hope I win 🙂

  7. Enjoyed the show very much. I can’t believe you all tiptoed around WWYF. Ridiculous. (Snickers)

FYI – one of my exes said I resembled John Cusack’s character in Say Anything. She was crazy tho.

I will be co-hosting the Cheyne Curry show. Be afraid, be very afraid.

  8. I enjoyed this episode. My favorite Melissa Brayden book is Waiting in the Wings. How Sweet It Is sounds wonderful! It’s definitely on my to-read list. 🙂

  9. I just finished Heart Block from Audible a few days ago. I was up late cleaning one night and started listening to it. After nearly 5 consecutive hours of listening, it was 2am and I was disappointed that I needed to get some sleep. It’s the only book by Melissa that I have “read” so far, but I am looking forward to the others. Especially this one since you all discussed the great chemistry of the characters.

On a side note, Stand By Me definitely needs to be on the Flicks list for the missed 80s movies. Cheri, you and your boy need to see that one! Though, I don’t know age appropriateness, so maybe not yet.

  10. Wow I won a book! Thank you.
To everyone at the Cocktail Hour have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thanks for the entertainment throughout the year.
